What did you do before you joined the SET for Teaching Success programme?

Prior to teaching, I gained industry experience in my home country of Nigeria, working in various roles including Hydro-Geologist, Mechanic, Maintenance Engineer, Farm Manager and as a self-employed Farm Contractor.

Why did you choose to work in Further Education and join the SET for Teaching Success programme?

I chose to teach in further education to impart my industry knowledge and experience with the main focus on skills acquisition by young people.

What do you like about teaching in FE and what have been the benefits of the programme?

I really enjoy seeing the positive impact my teaching has made on young people’s skills and how they take that knowledge forward. Seeing how my learners transfer the theory they have learnt into practice is really rewarding.

How has the programme developed you, or changed the way you do things or interact with students?

The SET for Teaching Success Programme has helped me to develop my teaching skills, boost my confidence and know the theory behind every aspect of teaching which has changed the way I relate to learners. The recent session on digital technology has really helped to show how I can make more use of the technology my learners use in my lessons.

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

In the future I would like to continue gaining experience teaching a range of levels across Apprenticeships and vocational qualifications.
